Art is a vehicle through which the life of the individual is brought to light. For artist Manli Chao, it is her appreciation, inspiration, and exploration of nature that is the basis of her creative outlook—an outlook expressed within an abstract medium rich in poetic sentiment. We are astounded at the power expressed by the interwoven network of dots, lines, and color graduations that make up Chao’s work. Such power is none other than a representation of the artist’s inner passion and personal experience that underline all her work. Using her “heart’s flow”, the artist weaves shapes and forms that quickly capture our attention and imagination.
Faith is another aspect that informs the artist’s creativity. As a Muslim, Chao lives her life according to the tenets of Islam. Yet her religious devotion also serves as a driver in the development of her abstract expressionism. Limited by what she can draw, Chao nevertheless finds opportunity for infinite expression. In this exhibition, we selected Chao’s art creation from 2014 to present—important pieces that offer a window into Islamic
culture and philosophy. We sincerely invite the visitors to explore the beauty of Islamic culture and art through this exhibition.
